Type Scale

Free browser tool for building modular type scales. Set a base size and ratio, tune heading and body typography, add responsive breakpoints, and export CSS custom properties.

What is a modular scale?

A modular scale multiplies a base font size by a consistent ratio to produce harmonious heading and body sizes. Common ratios include the major third (1.25), perfect fourth (1.333), and golden ratio (1.618).

How to use

  1. Pick a base size and named ratio (or enter a custom ratio).
  2. Set heading and body fonts, weights, and spacing.
  3. Preview at each breakpoint when responsive scales are added.
  4. Copy CSS, JSON, or a shareable link.
